Should you be an online ‘Friend’ with young people in Scouting?

When working with young people there will always be a ‘relationship’ formed; a relationship of trust, a connection, a friendship. Young people will look up to their leaders, they will feel they can talk to them should they need any advice or have any concerns, they trust their leaders to help them when they are ...

Photography not allowed! Due to Safeguarding? 2

Well, it’s a discussion that appears almost weekly, and it’s one myth that most definitely needs challenging. “You can’t take photos of young people.” “Photos of Scouts can’t be posted online!” “You can’t publish an individual photo of a young person.” “P.O.R. says no photos” They are all comments that I have seen thrown about ...

Social Media and Scouting

Social Media is nothing to be scared of, used correctly these methods of communication can be a great asset to any Scout Group. Social media is a great way to let your parents, supporters, the local community and the World wide Scouting Family know what fantastic adventures your Group gets up to. As the media ...

High Ropes!

High Ropes!
This photo was taken in 2010 in Kandersteg, Switzerland during our ‘trip of a lifetime’, to Kandersteg International Scout Centre. It’s another of my favourite photos from the trip, this took a couple of attempts to get focused correctly, but I think it’s just about there!

Pioneering on a World Class Scale!

Pioneering on a World Class Scale!
During the 22nd World Scout Jamboree, in Rinkaby, Sweden, the theme was ‘Simply Scouting’. All contingents were encouraged to build gateways and structures on their little campsite in a field of 40,000 Scouts! This is one of my favourite photos showing the building of these gateways!

Is this real? 1

Is this real?
One of my photos from 2010 when 4th Golcar Scout Group visited Kandersteg International Scout Centre in Switzerland. Even though I know there has been no editing on this photo, it still doesn’t look real! What do you think?
